Synopsis:
With white Jewish lesbians for parents and two adopted brothers, Brooklyn teen Avery grew up in a unique and loving household. But when her curiosity about her African-American roots grows, she decides to contact her birth mother. That choice propels Avery into her own complicated exploration of race, identity and family that threatens to distance her from the parents she’s always known.

Stories like this are what make me very anxious as a one day adoptive parent.
But then I remember how much I love children and how much I hate the very idea of pregnancy.
And realize it'll all be worth it in the end.

Arielle, when the abuse was very bad, all my sister daydreamed about was an adoptive parent. I won't tell you what I daydreamed about. It's too awful. Adoptive parents are doing a great thing. An awesome thing.
