The Jewish Press story, “A Dominican Haven for Jews Fleeing Hitler” by Mirna & Robert Ulfik tells the story of how one evil Dominican dictator and one little island in the Carribean saved hundreds of Jews from Hitler’s wrath.
I haven’t had the pleasure yet of visiting Sosúa, the area where Jews settled and where a small Jewish museum still stands, but I have plans to do so in the future.
If you’d like still more information on how the Dominicans saved the Jews, check out
“Dominican Haven:The Jewish Refugee Settlement in Sosua, 1940-1945”.
No matter how many times I hear this story, it still seems more amazing.
