One of my big dreams is to get something in the NY Times Modern Love section. So far, I’ve submitted my best essay ever and received a really great rejection letter.
I was just catching up on the section when I spotted the essay, I Measured My Commitment in Carats. It’s about a family dispute over an heirloom diamond engagement ring. It’s really a hilarious piece.
The piece made me think back to the good old days when I tried to convince my now husband to give me an engagement HDTV instead of a useless diamond. Alas, I got the diamond. He’s got it hidden somewhere since he’s afraid I’ll pawn it for something. I mean, sure, I already have the TV (thanks, bubby!) but I could use a pair of matching IKEA bookcases.
